SpoctroInlets: Enabling real-time analysis
Spectro Inlets

Find us at Exhibition Stand #9

Battery degradation may lead to the evolution of gas, a factor believed to contribute to the formation of an inconsistent and unstable Surface Electrolyte Interface (SEI) layer. This directly impacts battery performance and lifespan, reducing the duration of safe operation. Additionally, lithium reacts with electrolytes, metals, and traces of H2O/O2, diminishing ion availability and conductivity.

By identifying and understanding the mechanisms behind gas evolution and its subsequent reactions with cell components, we can develop materials and cell designs to mitigate technological limitations. Although charging and discharging processes are well-studied, gas evolution and aging remain areas lacking definitive solutions. Achieving this requires highly sensitive and selective characterization techniques capable of tracing evolved species at atomic and molecular levels.

Spectro Inlets offers real-time detection with exceptional sensitivity for volatile species evolved during multiple battery cycles using chip-based Electrochemistry-Mass Spectrometry (EC-MS). Our technique can operate in volatile environments, with precise sample temperature control and comprehensive data quantification. Additionally, inert sample transfer from a glove box ensures freedom from atmospheric contamination, enhancing our understanding of SEI formation and electrode/electrolyte degradation.
