Jake earned his MChem and DPhil in electrochemistry at Oxford before founding his Leicester research group in 2023. His work tackles environmental challenges through electrochemical innovations. By studying how molecules and ions interact at interfaces, he innovates new ways to recover valuable elements from electronic waste, improve sensors for monitoring pollution, and advance cleaner water treatment methods. His research supports sustainability efforts by establishing the circularity of critical elements and achieving cleaner water goals. He is also a guest editor for a 2026 special issue in Current Opinion in Electrochemistry on Environmental Electrochemistry, focusing on electrochemical recovery of critical elements.
