Oxford Instruments

Find us at Exhibition Stand #10

Oxford Instruments is helping researchers, developers, and manufacturers to make safer, longer lasting, more efficient, and more environmentally friendly batteries. Our unparalleled innovation in materials analysis equipment, methods, and integrated systems is transforming the testing and analysis of materials on the molecular level, at every stage of the battery production and usage lifecycle.

By improving the speed, scale, scope, and accuracy of analysis, we are enabling a much deeper understanding and comprehensive characterisation of the quality, properties, purity, composition, and behaviour of the materials that make up batteries – and accelerating the optimisation of the five key priorities in the batteries industry: Energy Density, Power Density, Safety, Lifespan, and Cost.

As the world makes a concerted move towards greener, more renewable energy sources, the role of battery power in everything from handheld consumer devices to large scale freight and logistics transport becomes increasingly important.

This accelerating demand for batter power requires manufacturers to push the boundaries and balance of different key performance criteria, in the quest to develop safer, longer lasting, more efficient, and more environmentally friendly batteries for an expanding range of use cases.

Integral to this is the rigorous testing and analysis of materials on the molecular level, at every stage of the life-cycle.

From raw material extraction to recycling spent or failed batteries, Oxford Instruments gives research, academia, manufacturing and more, the tools, techniques, and systems to analyse critical materials at the molecular level, to get faster, more accurate, more consistent, and scalable results.

Thermal Hazard Technology (THT)

Find us at Exhibition Stand #14

Thermal Hazard Technology (THT) is one of the leading suppliers of lithium battery safety testing equipment.

ARC provides an adiabatic testing environment typically leading to full thermal runaway. Thermal abuse, overcharge, controlled-speed nail penetration and short circuit can be carried in the ARC. The instrument is robust and rugged enough to withstand explosive battery decompositions, with the system designed to contain the significant energy released during thermal runaway.

New IBCx Isothermal Battery Calorimeter (IBC) for high precision heat measurement and heat capacity determination for multiformat cells. Cell temperature is kept constant, regardless of the C-rate. The amount of heat generated by the battery is then determined throughout the charge and discharge cycle. The standard system accommodates pouch and prismatic cells. Adaptors are available for cylindrical cells. The IBCx allows for characterisation of battery heat at different operating temperatures and C-rates, thereby providing information on battery performance, efficiency, and life cycle.

As well as instrumentation, THT offer a commercial sample testing service from their UK laboratory.
