Monica Marinescu is Associate Professor (Reader) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London, where she works at the interface between science and engineering. She has worked in the field of electrochemical energy storage for more than ten years, focussing on identifying the mechanisms that limit the performance of batteries and supercapacitors. She has developed bespoke modelling tools and experimental techniques that inform the design of battery cells and packs with increased performance, and that enable their better use. She is passionate about enabling industry advancements by bringing academic research outputs into real life applications. She leads research in multiple Faraday Institution, InnovateUK, and industry-funded projects. She is also co-founder and Chief Science Officer of Ionetic, a start-up delivering cost effective, performant battery pack technology driven by innovation.
