Professor Roy is an expert in electrochemical engineering. Her vision is that industrial scale applications can resolve real-life problems through previously untested sustainable technological solutions. Her research work reflects this synchronised approach of scientific elucidation leading to industrial application for the circular economy. She is the Professor of Chemical and Process Engineering and previous Head of that Department at Strathclyde. Prior to that she held the Chair of Electrochemical Nanomaterials (2005-2015) at Newcastle University. She has provided industrial scale electrochemical solutions to micro and opto electronics sectors, developed processes for medical implants, and contributed towards energy and corrosion research. She has also spun out two companies and is currently the Technical Advisor of Evolve Metals plc, who are engaged in metal reclamation from electronic waste using green ammonia. She has nearly 100 journal publications, graduated 30 PhD students, and given numerous invited lectures.
