Professor Richard Wills

Prof. Richard Wills is Professor of Electrochemical Energy Systems and Head of Department for Mechanical Engineering within the School of Engineering at the University of Southampton. He is a member of the DfT Science Advisory Council and has over 20 years’ experience of research and consultancy in energy storage and conversion technologies, including their efficient integration with renewable energy technologies and electricity systems. A strong focus is on the development of systems using environmental and life cycle assessment metrics as part of the design process. Principally, this involves the use of aqueous electrolytes and abundant, low-cost, active materials that are part of established material flows and recycling processes, for example lead and aluminium.
