Dr Yongzhi Zhang

Dr Yongzhi Zhang is an MSCA Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London, within Professor Gregory Offer’s Electrochemical Science and Engineering group. His research develops physics-based and physics-informed machine learning methods for lithium-ion battery modelling, degradation diagnostics, and safety prognostics, combining electrochemical models with deep learning to extract hidden internal states from routine field data. He has published over 40 papers and holds ESI Highly Cited status, with active collaborations spanning academia and the battery industry. His current work focuses on the fundamental question of what can be known about a battery’s interior from external measurements, and how this enables proactive battery management.
