Dr Thomas Mckinney

Dr. Thomas McKinney is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Sheffield, specialising in data-driven modelling, advanced battery engineering, and energy systems. He is currently working on the Faraday Institution’s NaSEMA project in collaboration with industry partner MOPO, where he focuses on the development and field-testing of sodium-ion battery packs in Liberia. Prior to this, he completed a highly successful two-year Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP), for which he was named a finalist for the 2025 Innovate UK KTP Future Leader Award, where he developed machine learning end-of-life models and digital twins for commercial battery systems. This followed the completion of PhD in 2023 on electric vehicle integration in rural areas.
