Serena Margadonna is Chair in Materials Engineering and Head of the School of Engineering and Applied Science at Swansea University. Earlier in her career, she held academic positions at Cambridge, Edinburgh, and Oslo, building recognised expertise in solid-state chemistry and multifunctional materials. She currently leads the electrochemical energy storage effort at Swansea and serves as PI on several Faraday Institution and Innovate UK projects focused on advancing next-generation Na-ion and anode-free technologies. A Royal Society Industry Fellow, her research spans materials discovery, characterisation, and device prototyping, often in close collaboration with industry. A central focus of her work is ensuring that new materials and technologies are not only high-performing but also scalable and compatible with real-world manufacturing. Her long-standing industrial partnerships reflect a sustained commitment to translating scientific advances into high-impact technologies that can accelerate the commercialisation of sustainable energy storage solutions.
