Dr Mel Loveridge

Associate Professor of Electrochemical Materials, WMG – University of Warwick

Session Chair: Battery Safety & Abuse | Tuesday 9 September 2025 – 14:00-16:00 – The Studio, Upper Foyer, Ground Floor

Dr Melanie Loveridge is a materials chemist with a proven background in new materials development and characterisation in the disciplines of energy storage systems (batteries) and corrosion inhibition in coated metal systems. She completed a doctorate sponsored by Akzo Nobel & Tata. Melanie has been involved with successful funding applications for EPSRC and Faraday Institution grants and collaborated in projects with top UK research groups. A significant time spent within industry has given her experience of being a specialist, leading teams and generating many high impact journal publications within battery materials, leading inventions and in international patents. Melanie’s specific research interests include: High capacity anode material development for Li-ion batteries, including Si nanomaterials, Si-alloys and composite active materials / Investigating functionalised graphene materials and other integrated 2D materials in Li and Na-ion Batteries / Smart composite coating development & in-situ characterization techniques in corrosion mechanisms and energy storage systems / Hybrid Polymer Systems for Li-ion battery electrodes / Characterisation of interfaces and failure mechanisms in batteries.
