Dr Mark Wootton

Research Associate In Li-ion Battery Safety, University Of Sheffield

Selected Talk | Battery Safety & Abuse | Tuesday 9th September 2025 – 14:00 -16:00 – The Studio, Upper Foyer, Ground Floor

Mark holds the position of Research Associate in Li-ion Battery Safety in the Department of Chemical, Materials, and Biological Engineering at The University of Sheffield as part of the SAFEBATT II project funded by the Faraday Institution. Li-ion batteries can be induced to undergo thermal runaway when abused or damaged, presenting an important avenue of research for improving the safe usage of the technology. The work of the project pertains to the application of computational chemistry and reaction network modelling methodologies, with the aim of building a fuller understanding of the mechanisms driving the phenomenon.
