Dr Ashley Willow is a Senior Lecturer at Swansea University’s department of Chemical Engineering. His research focus is on the understanding of sodium ion batteries and the “anode-free” format. Drawing on his background in pouch cell assembly, he established pouch and cylindrical cell facilities at Swansea University and tries to understand the issues in transferring from coin to commercial cell formats in these chemistries. He spent several years in industry on Lithium-Sulfur batteries and the electrochemistry of steel, and organizes the international sodium ion conference at Swansea University (STRIKE).
